Product details
A short piece for solo recorder
The inspiration behind the piece draws from the paintings of the neo-impressionists. 'Dot paintings', upon close inspection, are created out of individual marks of colour, rather than the blending of colours. One's perception and interpretation of the image are greatly affected by the distance from which one views the painting and its' various levels of detail.
In Perception I tried to create these various levels of detail.
Consideration was also given to how repeated listenings reveal more and more detail to the ear/mind, increasing one's understanding to a much deeper level. This is reflected in each statement of the cycle/progression revealing a greater sense of the entire picture.
The tempo is flexible and can be malleable to support expression, technical issues and breathing requirements.
Articulation markings are suggestions, but need not be strictly adhered to unless convenient.
Ideally Perception will be performed in a lush acoustic with optional reverb and effects overlaid.
