Digital Sheet Music [PDF]: ScorePrelude and White cockatoo spirit dance : for solo violin [eScore] / Ross Edwards. Also known as: Enyato II by Ross Edwards (1998)
|
Product details
The Australian violist Patricia Pollett asked me to write her a
solo piece when we were both in residence at the Mount Buller
Summer School for Strings in 1990. Four years later I completed
Enyato II, dedicated
to Patricia, who gave the first performance at a Perihelion
concert in Brisbane in 1994. I later replaced the title
Enyato II (enyato means simply 'contrast') with the more
evocative Prelude and White Cockatoo
Spirit Dance. Originally for viola, I later made
transposed versions for violin and cello.
The two movements are vastly dissimilar: the Prelude an
expressive adagio; the Dance, an energetic maninya (dance/chant),
whose characteristic shapes and patterns have been distilled from
the natural environment. This movement may be performed on its
own as White Cockatoo Spirit Dance.
