Product details
These seven songs were selected from a number of early songs, composed, except for 'Winter days', in the early 1950's, when I was still a student at the University of Melbourne. I composed 'Winter days' in the very early '60s, whilst studying privately with Malcolm Williamson in London. They have all been re-worked quite extensively, but I have endeavoured to retain the freshness of the ideas which is what I'd always valued in them. 'Winter days', of some years later than the others, represented an attempt to extend my textural, harmonic language. The re-workings have possibly narrowed the stylistic gap between the songs, and key adjustments for nos. III and IV enabled better tonal sequencing. My hope is that they will have benefited from more satisfactory crafting.
