Product details

This early work for Piano Trio is characteristic of Kay's early style - charming, but without the strong sense of identity with place that is characteristic of his later works, especially his major works for Piano Trio, 'The edge of Remoteness' (1996) and 'The Span of Time' (2004). - Simon Reade

"In 1964 I wrote four pieces for flute, bassoon and piano for three students at Peckham Manor School in London where I was head of music. When I returned to Tasmania and joined the Conservatorium of Music staff in 1967, the Sedivka Trio (comprising Jan and Beryl Sedivka and Sela Trau) asked if I had a work for Piano Trio which they could perform at a lunch time concert. I decided to transcribe the four Peckham Manor pieces and add Dance No.2 and Invocation to make a more substantial group. They are all quite short and varied in character and essentially light in character with perhaps No.V Invocation being the most thought-provoking and Dance No.2 the most spirited." - Don Kay
