Work Overview

All three movements presented in this edition are part of a larger song cycle titled Moonless Night, which is based on the famous radio play Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas. This version with soprano and 2 pianos is mostly a reduction of the orchestral version, even though some parts within the work have been recomposed or embellished slightly.

The text used in both of these movements come from the introduction of Under Milk Wood, where a narrator (in this case, the soprano) opens us up to the world of Thomas's imaginary Welsh town of Llareggub.
