Work Overview
Firestorm was originally composed for button accordion. Firestorm Symphony is an adaption of the earlier work and was orchestrated in 2009. It was inspired by the composer's personal experiences during bush fires in 1994 and 2001 whilst living through the fires in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney where she was residing at the time. The work has been recorded by the Moravian Philharmonic Orchestra.

Year: 2009
Instrumentation: Piccolo, 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, timpani, tubular bells, tom toms, snare drum, harp, strings.
Duration: 15 min.
Difficulty: Medium — Contemporary writing techniques including odd times, effects, modal and jazz harmonies.
Contents note: I. Firestorm threatening -- II. Now the tears are flowing --- III. All the trees are growing.
Dedication note: Dedicated to the victims of the 1993-4, 2001 and 2009 bushfires in NSW and Victoria
Orchestrated by Mark Saliba in consultation with the composer.
Honours: Third movement (All the Trees are Growing) was awarded Best Foreign Composition for the Artemis Women in Action Film Festival - Women Powered Music, April 25-28 2019 Los Angeles, USA.
