Work Overview
The original work, 'Day in Taralga' was composed for piano solo in 2003 for the Keys National Piano Competition - a national piano, vocal and choral competition based on Australian works.
At the request of Susan Blake and John Martin I have arranged the work for cello and piano. I did not want to copy exactly the original piano version but have tried to recreate its Scottish and modal style as a Fantasy for cello and piano, while still retaining the overall mood of the work. In performance 'Taralga' should be beguiling and a little folk-like. In the Section marked 'Free Fantasy' (b 62) there is ample room for some improvisation.
