Work Overview

This work is inspired by architecture, specifically with an imagined entrance of a large temple, probably a Dravidian temple in South India, though it could apply to any large building. Originally this was a movement of "Four Places", a cross-cultural work for hand drum, shakuhachi and cello, commissioned for Riley Lee as part of the Australian Festival of Asian Music and Dance. It evolved into something quite different with this version for Topology, and has had many different incarnations. It shows a lot of influence from my composition teacher Terry Riley, and is intensively inside a mode - the melodic minor.
