This work takes one second of speech (from Kevin Rudd's historic apology speech to the Stolen Generations) and stretches it out to a five-minute aural landscape. The time is then compressed back to its original length, reconstituting the original speech.
Instrumentation: Any voices or instruments (typically at least 5 musicians would be required to realise the piece effectively)
Duration: 8 min.
Difficulty: Advanced — The difficulty lies in being able to mimic sounds accurately in detail
Commission note: Commissioned by The Australian Voices.
First performance: by The Australian Voices — 1 Apr 12. Griffith University, Brisbane
The composer notes the following styles, genres, influences, etc associated with this work:
Alvin Lucier: I am sitting in a room, Leif Inge: 9 Beet Stretch, Steve Reich: Slow Motion Sound, Peter Ablinger: Talking Piano
