Score
Lost and present love : three songs for baritone and piano / Don Kay.
Library shelf no. 783.88542/KAY 4 [Available for loan]
Work Overview
These three songs result from a very recent re-discovery of
earlier attempts to set the poems involved in my middle 20s and
at 30 years. My Two Monodies of 1963 comprised the second and
third poems. I've now re-thought my original notations, added
piano accompaniment and included A widow bird... which I'd
attempted to set even earlier in the 1950s. I remembered the
original melody but not the piano part, having misplaced the
score. I've thorougly re-worked the song retaining an echo, only,
from the original.
What drove me then and now, I think even more, was my abiding
love for the poems and their complementary unity.
