Thirty little canons : for the young pianist / Justin Michael McKay.
Library shelf no. 786.2088054/MCK 2 [Not for loan]
Work Overview
These playful canons were written in late 2014, concurrently with Ten Simple Melodies. A broad range of tonalities and rhythms are represented, with several appearances of 5/4 time. Contrary to the procedure in 30 Canons on themes from As You Like It, here each is a canon at the octave or at the 15th. The odd one out would be the bitonal #11 in which each hand plays in a different key and in highly contrasting registers (three octaves apart). Though conceived as relatively easy piano works, these canons may equally be played by other combinations of instruments.
Includes biography of composer.
