Work Overview

A musical love-letter to Spain, the piece uses 4 female voices embedded in the orchestra, who sing the texts of flamenco songs. The work opens and closes with a "dreamscape" recalling fragments of well-known Spanish or Spanish-flavoured pieces. Various Spanish music styles appear in the piece: solea, bulerias, jota, saeta etc. Clapping and stamping from singers and percussionists also feature, as the work is based around the "jaleo", the non-singing non-guitar playing performers in flamenco.
