Work Overview
In Two Minds (Gemini song) is a contemporary art song is set for Mezzo-Soprano voice or Baritone voice. It is the third song in Margaret Brandman's 'Cosmic Wheel of the Zodiac' Song Cycle. The lyrics are by astrologer and poet Benita Rainer who has artfully distilled the individual characteristics of this star sign in her text.
Those born under the sign of Gemini may frequently change their point of view, and can change their minds quite easily about any aspect of their lives.
In Two Minds is applicable to the dual nature of this first air sign. This is captured by the central phrase of the lyrics 'So do not stay and do not go'. The key of the work at the outset is G Major however harmonies of the song move between G Major and C Major - 'two minds - two keys' and the work finishes in C Major.
