Work Overview

I'm unsure where I heard or read the turn of phrase "a subtle thrill", but wherever it was it intrigued me enough to make it into the notes doc on my phone full of potential names for things. I think it was the seeming conflict of it - to be thrilled is such a heightened state, how can that be subtle too? It seemed a fun challenge for a piece, something utterly absorbing, an edge-of-your-seat ride, without being loud, explosive, or overtly dramatic. It makes me think of those musical moments that send a slight shiver down your spine, a strange and satisfying chord progression, an understated yet sumptuous resolution.
