Work Overview

… In Dialogue… is an arrangement of Differing Dialogues, which was composed in 2009 and revised in 2011 for low flutes specialist Peter Sheridan. The origins of Differing Dialogues lie in the idea of loops and looping for the low flute family, with a solo part for bass flute sitting between these loops, and developing through changes in texture density.

It is also an exploration of palindromic rhythmic structures as exemplified in the opening sequence. I was asked by flutist, Alice Bennett, to arrange the piece for a concert titled 'Sonic Landscapes' on November 24th, 2013, and to add a percussion part. The idea of … In Dialogue… is a non-loop based version of Differing Dialogues. The loops are still there, but now they are integrated into the texture, moving between the flutes and being
supported by percussion.
