I thought 'Dance Cameos' an appropriate title as the three short pieces are imbued with certain rhythmic qualities combined with lightness and transparent, crisp, clear textures easily associated with expressive movement. The outer pieces are quick and pervaded by 6/8 - 3/4 patterns, whilst the slow central piece is in a constant 4/4. There are unifying cross references between the first and second and second and third pieces.
Instrumentation: Mandolin, flute, oboe, clarinet in B flat, bassoon, horn.
Duration: 9 min.
Dedication note: To my son, Michael
Commission note: Commissioned by Sydney Mandolins.. Commissioned for performance by the Sydney Wind Quintet in March 1987
