Work Overview
My new piece, in one movement, commissioned by Dominic Flynn, links to my Sextet of 1962 by virtue of its referencing each of its three movements. Hence the title. Because of that, I see it as a companion piece in spite of the age difference.
Whereas Sextet adheres strictly to dodecaphonic rigours, Update Hybrid is much freer and therefore very contrasting.
It is anchored by a kind of rondo/ostinato based on the first five notes of the sextet.
