Work Overview
This work was written at the invitation of the new Head of School, Professor Gary McPherson, to celebrate the establishment of the University of Melbourne School of Music, comprised of the former University Faculty of Music (Parkville) and the former VCA School of Music (Southbank). I wanted to impart something of the momentousness of this occasion, one of the major turning-points in the history of tertiary music education in Melbourne. I am grateful to Dr Stuart Greenbaum, Charles MacInnes, Dr Katy Abbott and Dr Richard Ward for their generous responses and suggestions during the composing of this fanfare.
