Work Overview
Breathing Space comprises six compositions of different durations, which play simultaneously across 32 speakers, in a physical space that is larger than a football field. The acoustic space where the work is installed - the Garden of Australian Dreams, at the National Museum of Australia (NMA), Canberra - is extremely reverberant and favours high frequencies. The conceptual underpinning of Breathing Space is to rewild this largely inorganic architectural space with sound, and in doing so, to make the experience of being in it welcoming, engaging, and gentle for visitors.
