A large-scale and virtuosic work for four solo wind players and orchestra commissioned for performance by WASO with their principal players in the solo roles. The first performance in August 2017 will be conducted by Simone Young and marks the twentieth anniversary of her work with WASO.
Instrumentation: Piccolo, 2 flutes (both doubling piccolo, flute 2 also doubling alto flute), cor anglais, bass clarinet, contrabassoon, 4 French horns in F (Horn 4 may double Wagner tuba for a short ossia passage in Movt 2), 3 trumpets in C , 2 tenor trombones, bass trombone, tuba, timpani, percussion (2 players), harp, celeste doubling piano (Piano is prepared in Movt 2), solo oboe, solo clarinet in B flat, solo French horn in F, solo bassoon, strings.
