Work Overview

This work is a transcription of Monteverdi's music of the same name - a movement taken from his large work, the Vespers of 1612. It was arranged by Schultz to commence a concert of Schultz's music given by The Seymour Group at the Eugene Goossens Hall, ABC Sydney in July 1994. The original music is one of Monteverdi's most beautiful and transparent vocal works scored for soprano and orchestra with the simple, refrain-like text consisting solely of "Sancta Maria ora por nobis". This arrangement aims to capture the lithe joyousness of the original.
