Work Overview

The Sleepers was written for a concert entitled TRACE celebrating composers and performers with disability. It was composed in response to a conversation with Soprano Ria Andriani, who wanted a work composed to act as a musical guide to allow her to move through the performance space unaided. This was achieved through a combination of clock-face-style directions and embedded audio description which described visual elements of the performance space for both audience members with low vision and for Ria herself. The lyrics from The Sleepers were taken from Walt Whitman's poem of the same name.
