Score

of dust : for SATB choir / Chris Williams ; [text by] August Strindberg.

Work Overview

The text for "of dust" comes from the poem "Indra" by August Strindberg. In Vedic mythology Indra is a powerful warrior god, who is lord of heaven, god of war and weather. The poem contrasts grand, and commanding images of Indra and the gods with the suffering of humanity; the fragility of those "sons of dust," "born of dust" who ultimately return "to dust." Images of the divine and eternal intermingle with the dust and din of mortality.
