Work

Casio gaga : for mixed chamber ensemble

by Steve Wood (1984)

Work Overview

Inspired by traditional Japanese Gagaku, Casio Gaga uses tenor saxophone, trombone and vibraphone in conjunction with that modern Japanese instrument, the Casio keyboard to explore some of the sound world of this traditional Japanese form without becoming a pastiche of it. When it was composed, the rock band Queen had a big hit with a song called Radio Gaga, so the title seemed appropriate - Casio Gagaku = Casio Gaga.
