Australian Music on ABC Classic FM in August 2012
Concerts on ABC Classic FM in August include world premieres of
Carl
Vine's
The Tree of Man (on texts by Patrick White) with the ACO
and expatriate star soprano Danielle de Niese, and a piano trio,
evocatively titled the estuaries of time, by Alan
Holley for
Seraphim Trio. Also on the menu are live broadcasts of music
by Nigel
Westlake from Australian Festival of Chamber Music,
Townsville, and Brett
Dean by the MSO, plus another chance to hear Dean's Pulitzer
Prize-winning
The Lost Art of Letter Writing performed by the ANAM
Orchestra. And there are performances of music by Richard
Meale, Jack Body (NZ), Andrew
Schultz
Gordon
Kerry, Matthew
Hindson, Paul
Stanhope, Ross
Edwards and Ian
Munro.
In New Music Up Late we remember one of Australia's most significant composers: Richard Meale would have turned 80 this month. On the 26 of August you'll hear a repeat of a 2007 program, a memorable and moving broadcast, in which Richard selected a 'personal best' playlist, delving into the genesis and background behind each work. We also chat with a rising star of new music, pianist Zubin Kanga, about his latest Australian tour featuring music by Rosalind Page, Jane Stanley, Marcus Whale and Anthony Moles. Plus we hear a series of radiophonic portraits of Barcelona composed by Robert Iolini alongside a longer, commissioned feature in ABC Radio National's Into The Music.
Our 'INTERIOR' podcast series continues with more music designed for the idiosyncracies of current bionic ear cochlear implant technology, featuring works by Robin Fox, Eugene Ughetti, Rohan Drape, Ben Harper, Natasha Anderson and James Rushford. And in our classic/amp collection we've just reached 90 works. Recent additions include: composer/pianist Roy Agnew's 1943 performance of his Sonata Fantasie; Georges Lentz's prepared piano work Alkere performed by Clemens Leske; Felix Werder's Requiem (to Manfred Triesch) directed by the composer with a young Merlyn Quaife in the leading role; a radiophonic realisation of Gerard Brophy's Gethsemane with The Song Company and associates, and Jon Rose's live radiophonic ensemble piece Talking Back to Media featuring the talents of a dozen leading improvisers under Rose's direction.
