Event Details
David Geringas, once acclaimed as the great Mstislav Rostropovich’s favourite pupil and now an international star, performs a cello concerto dedicated to him by Anatolijus Šenderovas. It received an ecstatic reaction at its premiere in 2002 and has continued to enrapture audiences and follows Richard Meale’s imaginative and colourful Three Miró Pieces. Then, savour the dark romantic beauty and powerful passion of Dvorák’s Seventh Symphony, regarded by many as his greatest, about which the composer himself wrote: ‘… I think of nothing but my work, which must be capable of stirring the world ...’ How brilliantly he succeeded!
Featured non-Australian music: Tchaikovsky, Senderovas, Dvorak
