Event Details
The Hourglass Ensemble makes chamber music accessible and engaging by connecting with audiences and explaining the context, meaning, and narrative of each work. This concert is named for Tchaikovsy’s eternal masterpiece, the Waltz, part of his Nutcracker ballet.
The full program celebrates the mesmerising interplay of piano with strings in Carl Vine’s piano trio, contrasted with Saint-Saens’ grand, lyrical work for harp and flute. Peter Sculthorpe’s timeless Dreamtracks evokes Aboriginal song lines and paths through Kakadu, and the world premiere of Australian Michal Rosiak’s chamber concerto is inspired and re-imagined from Bach’s baroque masterpieces.
