The "Rosenkavalier" fantasy about the famous final duet of the opera comes from the pen of Percy Aldridge Grainger, born in 1882 in Melbourne. Grainger came to Europe in 1895 as a "Wunderkind" and frequently toured London, where his fame as a virtuoso concert pianist and composer spread rapidly. The present "Rosenkavalier" transcription is living proof of Grainger's most important virtue: never being boring.
