Product details
Jasmine is a climbing shrub which yields pink and white flowers, and its characteristics, for which I have a personal attachment, pervade this work on various levels. The cycle of germination, growth and decay can be superimposed on the buds, flowers and withered stems, all of which appear simultaneously on the shrub and in the music. Often I feel as though the notes have been confined by the instrument for which they are written, rather like a creeper growing around a trellis. But even on the plant itself the solid edifice of branches remains constant while elaborations weave around it (albeit doomed to transience). However, without these temporary elaborations no process is possible. Indeed the growth around the struts allows both the plant, and the music, to function. -D.Y. 1992
