  • Instrumentation: Solo tenor trombone, 2 flutes (2nd doubling piccolo), 2 oboes (2nd doubling cor anglais), 2 clarinets in B flat (2nd doubling bass clarinet in Bb), 2 bassoons (2nd doubling contrabassoon), 4 horns in F, 2 trumpets in C, tenor trombone, bass trombone, tuba, timpani, percussion (1 player: glockenspiel, vibraphone (sticks and bow), triangle, tambourine, suspended cymbal, tam-tam,snare drum, tom-tom (mid/low), bass drum, whip), harp, strings (double basses with C extension).

Product details

Trombone Concerto was composed for David Robins and the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra as part of the 2022-23 Australian Composers School. The centrepiece of the concerto is a lyrical eight-minute middle movement. This is bookended by fast movements of three and four minutes, the first dark and quirky, the second vigorous and optimistic. A short cadenza opens the third movement, during which the performer is free to extemporise on the written part.
