Sheet Music: Performance PartsWhere to from Here? : for clarinet, viola, and piano / Aaron Wyatt.by Aaron Wyatt (2024)

Product details
Where to from Here? follows on from my recent orchestral work Voiceless in reflecting on last year's Indigenous Voice referendum. But where Voiceless focuses on the build up to the vote and the immediate aftermath, this work ponders how we can move forward from the awkward place in which we now find ourselves. The work starts in a melancholy way, built on similar harmonic material to the start and end of Voiceless. The entire opening is underpinned by a sustained pedal note in the left hand of the piano, before the viola and clarinet start to break free from this. Eventually the work tentatively shifts to the major, as a glimmer of hope gives way to a cautious optimism. The flowing semiquavers in the viola give a renewed energy and sense of urgency, but this is short lived: the tempo settles and the piece comes to a close, hopeful but full of uncertainty.
