Generally very lyrical writing, with the occasional energetic 'sound-effect' improvisations. These sections are not very difficult; one can simply play, repeat and chop up the motifs provided, or omit them altogether.
Instrumentation: Flute, piano.
Duration: 11 min.
Difficulty: Advanced — Some tricky triplet passage work in 7/8 and 9/8 time. Difficulty is not so much 'virtuosic' writing, rather the time signatures. Options for improvisation are included, which if not appropriate, can be omitted.
Dedication note: Dedicated to Carla Thackrah, as well as to the memory of my mother, Vera Crivici
Commission note: Commissioned by Carla Thackrah
The composer notes the following styles, genres, influences, etc in relation to this work:
Ambient lyrical sound, with occasional gentle Balkan rhythms. One section/movement is loosely based on a Serbian folk melody.
