Work Overview
Love in Solitude (Disassembled) is a reworking of Love in Solitude, composed as a result of winning the 2017 Merlyn Myer Composing Women's Commission, which was originally performed and recorded by Ensemble Offspring. The work is a meditation on the eloquent thoughts of Rainer Maria Rilke, presented in Letters To A Young Poet, and manoeuvres through various states as depicted in Rilke's thoughts - solitude, sadness, pain, patience, love and optimism. The original score, having been entirely notated, included pre-recorded sound that featured the narration of a selection of Rilke's text by Miroslav Bukovsky. Love in Solitude (Disassembled), as the title indicates, is a marked departure from the original. Dependant solely on live sounds and improvised contributions from Five Below and guest Julien Wilson, this iteration features the voice of my eldest son, Jim Keller, conveying Rilke's wisdom.
