Work Overview

The original fanfare was written for the Asian Games of 2006, Qatar, here given at the start. A series of contrasting variations follow, including a jazz-influenced section with flute and clarinet solos, leading to a slow and majestic ending.

Instrumentation: Piccolo, flute, 2 oboes, clarinet in B flat, 2 bass clarinets in B flat, bassoons, alto saxophone in E flat, tenor saxophone in B flat, baritone saxophone in E flat, trumpets in B flat, horns in F, trombone, euphonium, tuba, timpani, percussion.

Duration: 10 min.

Difficulty: Medium — Advanced high school band level
