Work Overview

A brooding and expressionistic work, offering a musical analog of an insomniac's obsessive yet fragmentary stream of consciousness. Composed for the 1988 National Orchestral Composers' School, subsequently revised for performances by TSO and ASO.

Year: 1988

Instrumentation: 2 flutes (2nd doubling piccolo), 2 oboes, cor anglais, 2 clarinets in A (2nd doubling bass clarinet), 2 bassoons (2nd doubling contra-bassoon), 4 horns, 2 trumpets in C, 3 trombones, percussion (minimum of 2 players), harp, strings (8.7.5.4.3).

Duration: 16 min.
