Work Overview

Worlds within worlds is an exploration into perspective. A lurching, energetic fanfare depicts bustling cityscapes: melodious metropolis' made up of ever evolving monuments; continuous construction marching skywards; relentlessly driving rhythms and ostinatos symbolising the bustle of the city streets.

But what of the quiet realm of the secluded courtyard, hidden from view and entered only by a narrow laneway: a secret world within the city's walls?

An abrupt interruption returns the concrete and grey calamity of man-made structures and its resultant man-made constructs - the corporate world at its most monotonous.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to escape? The birds overhead observe the jarring chaotic architectural aspect below...

Instrumentation: Flute, oboe, 2 clarinets in Bb, bassoon, 2 horns in F, 2 trumpets in C, trombone, tuba, timpani, percussion (2 players), harp, celeste/piano, 4 violins, 2 violas, 2 cellos, double bass.

Duration: 9 min.
