Work Overview

Worlds within worlds is an exploration into perspective. A lurching, energetic fanfare depicts bustling cityscapes: melodious metropolis' made up of ever evolving monuments; continuous construction marching skywards; relentlessly driving rhythms and ostinatos symbolising the bustle of the city streets.

But what of the quiet realm of the secluded courtyard, hidden from view and entered only by a narrow laneway: a secret world within the city's walls?

An abrupt interruption returns the concrete and grey calamity of man-made structures and its resultant man-made constructs - the corporate world at its most monotonous.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to escape? The birds overhead observe the jarring chaotic architectural aspect below...

Instrumentation: 4 flutes, 3 oboes, cor anglais, 3 clarinets in Bb, bass clarinet in Bb, 3 bassoons, contrabassoon, 4 horns in F, 4 trumpets in Bb, 2 trombones, bass trombone, tuba, timpani, percussion, harp, celesta, strings.
