I wrote the piece firstly as part of the ballet "Wild Swans" choreographed by Meryl Tankard for Australian Ballet. Originally it was for soprano and orchestra and had its premiere in 2003. The piece introduces princess Eliza and expresses her pure soul, innocence and faith in the good of the world. The piece is light in texture and uses very simple harmonies (it starts with just 3 chords A minor-C major-F major).
Since then I transcribed it for piano solo, as well as for string quartet, clarinet quartet, violin and piano, clarinet and piano, flute and piano, etc... Due to the use of the original version in a TV advertisement in UK, it became well known there and has since been remixed by Mark Brown as well as other DJ's, as well as made into a pop song (called "The Journey Continues" sung by Sarah Cracknell).

My favourite Australian art song repertoire

The AMC asked leading practitioners to select their favourite Australian art song repertoire, to provide delegates to the 2013 International Conference of Vocal Teachers (Brisbane 2013) with an introduction to this rich and diverse landscape.
This simple coloratura song has been heard around the globe thanks to the Lloyds Bank ad that featured sprightly fairy tale visuals to match. The song was originally part of a ballet, hence the absence of words. But the music is infectious and speaks volumes for anyone who has been reared on Walt Disney.
This delightful wordless piece has become a popular classic, with frequent programming on radio and other media. A distinctive, magical sound-world is created through the interplay of the bell-like vocal line and the sparkling accompaniment. A perfect work for a light, high, flexible soprano voice. Quite simple musically, with repetition and variation of short melodic phrases. Technically challenging, with extensive use of staccato phrases needing total accuracy of pitch, and a contrasting legato central section.
