Event Details
The Southern Cross Philharmonia is proud to present its second series of concerts featuring past and present Australian composers. Concert One of the 2009 Series features two Australian composers with two works for string orchestra - both are Australian premieres.
Prelude and Aria by the Australian composer Roger Rooman (1948-1996) is the first part of Prelude, Aria and Sinfonia (1983), an epic contrapuntal musical argument with moments of ecstatic dancing.
Andrián Pertout's Sonus Dulcis was conceived in August 2000, originally composed for string trio, exploring a system of pure intonation and the music associated with the Japanese harp and shamisen music.
Featured non-Australian music: Gustav Holst:, St Paul's Suite, Dowland/Warlock: Dance Suite
