Work Overview
Solitude was the first work from a two-work set for solo piano. Both works use the diminished octatonic scale, incorporate metric modulation and are written across three staves.
In Solitude a single D is played throughout at an unchanging pulse, written in a centre stave. Around it, the overall tempo modulates slightly so that its relationship to the surrounding harmonies is in constant flux- a lone figure wandering through a sea of harmony.
